Balfour Beatty secured a £ 52m contract for HS2 Phase 2A. The contractor won the contract for early environmental works for the route between Birmingham and Crowe – the first to be signed since Parliament approved the station in February. The works include creating new forests as wetlands as part of the mega project’s environmental mitigation efforts. Colette Carroll, HS2 Delivery Manager, Phase 2A, said the award shows the project is bringing HS2 benefits to the North earlier than originally planned.
