Bam Construct has been selected to deliver a £ 30 million expansion of the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. The contractor will build a three-story extension to the existing Trelawney ward, which will include an MRI suite and a 24-bed hematology and oncology suite. Enabling work was completed last month and the main building phase will soon begin. Subcontractors hired to date include TClarke of M&E, Luscombes joinery specialist, and WBM Earthworks. The new project is slated to be completed in the fall of 2022. Pam’s construction manager Graham Kingdon said working in a neighborhood hospital would be an additional challenge. He said, “We have been on site and doing ancillary business for trust for the past two years, so we formed a good understanding and good relationship with them and our partners before starting the main business.” “We will have to keep the hospital running at full capacity during this time despite technical challenges.” The Truro project is the second project that Bam has won through the Procure 22 framework in 2021, after it was set up last month to introduce a major £ 68m trauma hospital in Greater Manchester. In May last year, it was named as a building partner for a major real estate improvement program run by Bristol University Hospitals and the Weston NHS Foundation Trust after winning the contract through the Procure22 framework.
