This chevron seat was inspired by a very cute West Elm bench that is no longer available. Their version has metal legs / frame, but their version has all wooden legs to make the construction process simple and less expensive. The legs of this bench have been changed slightly to make a firmer rectangular end with a more modern, box-frame style. Chevron top looks intricate but is actually a simple split wood deck for starting woodworkers. You can build it from 1 x 3 or 1 x 4 lumber, or whatever you have on hand. The 2×2 seat base is really easy to build, and you can only use two boards up if you prefer a faster seat. Get this and more printable furniture plans here Chevron Wood Bench Finish After you follow the woodworking plans to build the bench base and chevron surface, the seat surface will dry on the seat, then By staining it before installing the top.After filling in the cracks and imperfections and sanding both pieces smoothly, I finished the seat with a golden oak cover and white painted base. I primed the base with a primer and then painted it with white latex. I stained the top of the chevron with Minwax Oak Golden and I followed this up with Minwax Oak Oak to add a little definition in the cracks and define the chevron pattern. The old oak made the top a little darker as I would have liked, so I let the stain dry overnight and lightly sanded the surface of the pine and prepared a light layer of golden oak. The stain dries and I applied a layer of Minwax semi-gloss polyurethane to protect the surface. For a different pattern, you can paint the base to look like metal and smear the top on an old farmhouse more like this. You can also use a wash technique Our favorite colors to stain the wood in any color you desire (or adjust the stain color as Cassette did on the barn door gate for the kids).
