ECS Launches New Digital CPD System

0

The Electrotechnical Certification System (ECS) has launched a new digital Continuing Professional Development (CPD) system, which allows all ECS cardholders to register their CPD directly in their online records. Part of the ECS Code of Recorded Professional Practice, CPD demonstrates professionals’ commitment to enhancing their personal and professional skills throughout their careers. CPD also plays an important role in ensuring that people in all sectors retain the knowledge and skills required to perform their role. It was highlighted in the publication of the Syndicate Preparation report which addressed the issue of building a safer future and proposed a comprehensive competency system that included refresher training in CPD. The report stated that CSCS, and partner schemes such as ECS, will play an important role within the framework in ensuring that people are trained and assessed according to relevant industry standards and that cardholders are kept up to date with the relevant requirements of their role. Jay Parmar, CEO of the Joint Industry Council (JIB), said: “This is a huge step forward for an industry that has been raising standards across the built environment since the Grenfell Tower tragedy in June 2017. The benefits of continuing professional development (CPD) are manifold for both employee and employer as it allows for individuals to continually develop their skills, regardless of age or occupation.” This new digital scoring system will be beneficial to the entire industry as it will play an important role in helping employers and clients to identify an individual’s achievements and certifications through a single system that is recognized across the UK and will be critical to these Projects within the scope of the Building Safety Act.” The ECS CPD digital system provides all cardholders with a free online wallet through the MyECS section of the ECS website which enables evidence of the skills and knowledge they have achieved with ease. Cardholders can also reinforce their commitment to keep abreast of the latest changes or operations, minimize duplication of internships or inductions, and demonstrate their hard-earned credentials and development across a wide range of learning types and styles. ECS card holders now login to their MyECS portal to view their CPD history and start logging their activities, upload or check any new technical certifications and update their card as necessary.
