This week, we’re helping a family in Louisiana restore their home after Hurricane Zita caused some serious damage. We are also preparing their home for the 2021 hurricane season, the house is owned by David and Robby Lublin from Cut Off, Louisiana, replace the mirrored mixed roof, the first project is to replace the roof. David and Ruby have done their fair share of research and have chosen the perfect roof for their home from The Metal Roofing Alliance. When the ceilings arrived, they began the work by trimming around the eaves and installing a sublayer over the old wood panels to prepare for a new metal roof installation Installing new French doors It is time for me and David to replace the old French doors with new ones. Old French doors were damaged in the recent hurricane as the seal around the glass frame was breached, letting moisture in between the panes of glass. We start by removing the decoration around the door and then removing the old doors. Once the new French doors are installed, we properly isolate the space around the door and finish it off with the new doors closed. To create reusable storm panels, we start by measuring the windows that will be covering them, and then, we cut out half-inch plywood and drilled quarter-inch mounting holes in the four corners of each panel and midway through the longest to reduce any warping, we also paint these panels. Once it’s dry, we put it in place temporarily so that we can locate the mounting holes on the windowsill, and at each of these marks we drill a hole half an inch in diameter. This is so we can install the toothed anchor fasteners. After Hurricane Zeta passed, the landscapes at LeBlancs were destroyed, and to bring some life back to the front yard, we replaced my myrtle crape trees. Now, this house down the bay is beautiful and sheltered from any storms that might come its way. Other tips from this episode further reading
