LCL Awards has launched a new qualification designed to ensure electrical safety in rental properties – in both social and private sector housing. The Level 2 Award in Electrical Safety Awareness in Social and Residential Housing is ideal for landlords, real estate agents and maintenance teams. Since June 1, 2020, landlords in England have been required to check electrical installations on their rental properties by a qualified electrician at the start of a new lease to ensure they are safe. By April 1, 2021, these checks must be performed on any existing rentals, and re-verified every five years. Since 25% of social housing properties are not equipped with the electrical safety features recommended by the government, the responsible authorities need correct knowledge to protect residents from avoidable accidents. The LCL Awards qualification enables industry professionals to familiarize themselves with the most recent guidelines and covers: – Legislative requirements and guidelines for landlords, owners and others responsible for maintaining electrical safety in residences; Principles and properties of electricity. How is the electricity used in the dwellings? – dangers and dangers associated with indoor electricity; Knowing the electrical appliances, fixtures and installations that may pose a danger to the building’s occupants. There are no specific pre-requisites, but candidates will be evaluated prior to registration. The qualification will be available at LCL award centers across the UK.
