The team at BG Electrical and Luceco tell us more about why participation and feedback from those on the front lines have shaped the development of the latest solutions to enter the market. Many issues can get in the way of lighting installation or wiring, and while we can’t solve them all, we’ve worked hard with electrical contractors in the country to work out as many solutions as possible. Listening to your feedback, we have redeveloped several Luceco Lighting and BG Electrical product lines, to make installation faster, easier and more versatile in application. Two of these recently redeveloped kits are the Luceco FTYPE Compact LED downlight and the BG Fortress circuit protection kit, both of which are now available. FTYPE made compact, the new compact FTYPE range is an evolutionary upgrade to the FTYPE range of LED downlights. With improved crystal optics, Samsung’s latest chipset is packed into a more compact unit for more versatility, especially in low or clogged ceiling spaces. “There are several features that we have further developed within the FTYPE Compact range to make it faster and easier to install,” says Simon Shenton, Luceco’s Head of LED Lighting Product Development. Cable overlap for quick and organized installation. Furthermore, the terminals can be used with both solid and table cables, eliminating the need to select different products for each type of cable. “This is also a major feature of our cable clip housing, which securely secures both solid and riveted cables.” He adds, “To reduce the possibility of damage to the plasterboard installation around the mounting hole, our kit is supplied with rubber covers on the clamps and magnetic flanges that snap into place without having to remove the entire unit.” A wide range of decorative edges are available to suit every aesthetic, and they can be easily interchanged to accommodate subsequent changes in decor. All downlights in the range provide 100 lumens per output watt, are NHBC certified for I-JOIST applications, 30-60-90 minutes fire-resistant and are Parts L, C and E compatible, with the exceptions of Part L of the 4W versions. Similar to the original FTYPE model, the new compact range includes a fixed, adjustable, and new retractor version, which includes a retractable optic that places the LEDs in the ceiling light further. This creates less glare and a softer feel within the lit space. The range also includes Dim2Warm and Color Changing versions, providing different lighting color temperature options to suit different environments and preferences. Feedback on Circuit Protection Another product group that has undergone many recent changes is the BG Fortress Circuit Protection Range. Over the past 18 months, our product development team has worked alongside contractors to update this range of products. “Helping contractors make their installation faster and easier has been one of the main drivers behind our ongoing design changes,” says David Cleaver, Senior Director of Product at BG Electrical. Recent changes have focused largely on the construction and internal connections of the consumer unit. We addressed this by changing the internal wiring configuration, which makes it much easier to install incoming and outgoing cables, using acoustically welded cables instead of bulky grommets.” He continues: “We have included a DIN quick-release rail and a counterweight window that allows more room around the top, sides and back From DIN rail, and inlets to decorate the cable. Additional support has been added to the DIN rail to make it easier and more stable when torqueing the terminals.” The scope includes composite type screws, so the contractor only needs to use a single screwdriver for installation, with end screws supported and riveted to prevent the inconvenience of losing screws. To improve accuracy, An integrated spirit level helps contractors check that the board is level, which provides convenience and simplifies installation;Especially useful when working with one hand.Floating connecting rods that can be cut to size and configured according to installation requirements are included, providing maximum flexibility for the contractor. All of these major additions are the result of contractor feedback, making Fortress consumer units faster and easier to install.High safety comes standard on Fortress Dual RCD boards, allowing separation of important circuits, such as alarm systems and refrigerator freezers. With great flexibility and a high range of rechargeable devices. For customization that includes Type A RCDs (including 100A), Type A RCBOs, SPDs and variable panel configurations, contractors can tailor their requirements to meet the latest regulations and virtually any application. All contractors who gave us their feedback and those who worked with us directly.
