Brett Smith, Managing Director of Ideal Industries EMEA, investigates why supplier / training partnerships are crucial to harnessing product loyalty and innovation in the future. Many electrical supply chain companies invest in training their own team, but for Ideal Industries, training also forms part of a deeper commitment to the sector and our company’s business development strategy. We know from experience that the products and brands that electricians use when they train are often the products and brands that they remain loyal to throughout their careers. This is one of the reasons why we developed the Knowledge Partnership Program with colleges and training providers. It allows us to contribute to the training of the next generation of electricians and enables us to introduce them to the benefits of our products early in their careers. We are currently investing heavily in developing a virtual reality platform that will enhance the training support we can provide and enable more training electricians to try our products using innovative technology when looking at the latest partnership with a training provider, early career does not necessarily imply trainees who have left school. In addition to working with a number of colleges, we have developed a partnership with a non-profit training provider in Widnes, Cheshire. Trade Training UK specializes in raising the skills of electricians and enabling people to retrain them for roles in the electrical sector. The training company was the brainchild of Greg Hoonahian, who has worked on tools and in the vocational training sector and still combines courses at Trade Training UK with work as an electrical lab. “There is currently a huge demand for electricians, and with the growth in green technologies, no carbon emissions and targets for electric vehicles, and the appetite for smart buildings, this demand will continue to grow,” says Greg. Meanwhile, those who have lost their jobs or have had time to consider their options over the past year are looking for retraining opportunities. What we have done with Trade Training UK is to make electrical training affordable and accessible to people who need to continue earning while they retrain or improve their skills, with weekend and evening courses to suit the busy life. ”Greg offers a lot of training at Trade Training UK himself and was already familiar with After contacting the company to obtain samples of Ideal Industries’ Insure Push-In, Lever, and In-Line connectors to demonstrate the advantages of ease, speed and consistency they offer for wire termination, he was able to develop a broader partnership with the company. We really like what Trade Training UK does to facilitate access to electrical training and encourage people of all ages to establish a career in this sector, so we are excited to be able to support them with products to use in training courses. Access to a variety of products so that they have experience with different installation methods and are ready for a variety of tasks that may be required of them in brain projects. Curvature. So far, we have provided both In-Sure connectors and safe isolation kits for use by Trade Training students in the UK and have also visited a training center to showcase a range of other products to help introduce electricians to the range. The benefits of this type of partnership to us are broader. It allows us to gain a first-hand understanding of the installation challenges, helps guide our product development, and also allows us to access feedback about new products before launch. The knowledge sharing partnership will continue to evolve this year as lockdown restrictions are eased and face-to-face training allowed again. In the meantime, both of us and Trade Training UK can already see the benefits that each organization has received. “We have received great feedback from students about the Ideal Industries products they have used and the relationship helps us enable students to use quality products without increasing the overhead or the cost of the courses,” concludes Greg.
