The holidays can get complicated, from gifts to decorating, but don’t panic thanks to Katie Dunn from Classically Dunn. Katie shared her simple holiday decorating tips and ways to fill your home with holiday cheer the classic way. Check out how she does it below with the help of The Home Depot. Hi! Katie Dunn is here. Decorating this holiday season is a tradition that I look forward to every year. There’s something nostalgic and cheerful about the holidays, don’t you think? As soon as the leaves begin to change, dream of twinkling lights and perpetual greenery. This year, our son is at an age when the holiday season is pure magic. So, when it comes to decorating, I knew I wanted to stick to simple and classic Christmas decor in the living room – using lots of greenery and pops of red, all while maintaining the overall neutral palette I love. The Home Depot had everything I needed to bring my vision to life this year! Festive living room Let’s start with the fireplace. Home Depot was cute enough to send in this lovely pre-lit wreath that was embellished with red and gold motifs. The hoop is a statement piece on its own, to the point where I didn’t feel the need to add any additional decor to the scarf. I definitely lower it kind of expensive. Next, we ordered this beautiful pre-lit artificial tree. When it arrived, I was a little nervous because it would be too big for our house, but the size is perfect. I really like how realistic that is, too! I know this will brighten our house for many more birthdays to come. When it comes to decorating the tree, I wanted to keep it simple. I used classic and modern ornaments in muted golden and champagne hues as well as some shades of red and green. These were just what I needed to complement a fireplace wreath. We hung them up using green decorative hooks that blend well with the tree. For a more modern look, she replaced the traditional tree skirt for a rattan tree collar. From here, we hung a wreath on each of the windows. It’s a simple way to add festive greenery and can be enjoyed inside and out! Now our neighbors will be able to enjoy the beautiful warm glow from the twinkling lights in the pre-lit wreaths as they pass by. Finally, we can’t forget the coffee table! I like filling a favorite bowl or plate with Christmas decorations. We had some red ornaments left after we cut the tree, so I put them in an antique bowl. The muted red undertones are my favorite and the motifs give a more modern take on the classic tracery style. Love how this simple design element ties it all together. The festive exterior in my opinion, the house is completely undecorated for the holidays if you skip the look. Home Depot sent us these adorable reindeer lighting for the patio and I had the perfect place to display it. In order to really set the scene, I asked my husband to envelop the trees in clear, glowing lights. He then hung larger C9 lights on the building, and we complemented this corner with another pre-lit garland on the door. When the lights are turned on in the evening, our yard turns into a winter wonderland. Style tips, let’s summarize some of my favorite holiday style tips: Keep it simple – a little more Add greenery Add a pop of color Find ways to tie your space together (like decorations in a bowl) Have fun!
