Whether it’s a fun after-school snack or an after-dinner dessert, our Cheerio Bars are a great anytime treat! The colorful sprinkles on top make it festive and adorable. This Cheerio dessert requires no baking. This is an easy recipe to keep on hand – everyone will thank you for it! Cherio Bars If you enjoy quick and easy dishes, like chocolate chip cookies or sugar cheesecake bars, you’ll love Cherio Bars! It’s a unique twist on regular Rice Krispies desserts. But the biggest difference is that this recipe doesn’t use marshmallows! The bars are topped with a deliciously buttery sugary sauce that gently solidifies when cooled. Poured over traditional Cheerios, I like that it doesn’t overpower the taste of the cereal. Everyone loves Cheerios, and these bars enhance the flavor while adding a bit of sweetness. To make Cheerio bars, you need the following ingredients: Cheerios, butter, sugar, corn syrup, and vanilla extract. As you may see, I have a homemade version of vanilla extract. During 2020, one of our cool neighbors made me some homemade vanilla extract, and I have to tell you, it’s incredible! Begin by mixing sugar and corn syrup over medium heat until boiling. It heats up quickly, so it is important to stir it slowly while bringing it to a boil. It will be thick at first, and eventually become more liquid as the heat rises. As soon as the sugar mixture boils, remove it from the heat and place a piece of butter in the middle. Stir slowly until the butter melts evenly. Melted butter and sugar are simply fantastic! At this point, you will need a large mixing bowl. Pour the butter and sugar mixture over the Cheerios in a mixing bowl. Mix everything together slowly until completely blended. Well, you can taste Cheerio at this point if you want! Finally, place the coated Cheerios in a baking dish fitted with nonstick spray. An 8’x8 or 9’x9′ platter works great! The non-stick spray will help your Cheerio bars lift easily when you’re ready to enjoy them. Let the Cheerio bars cool for 30 minutes or so. You can wait longer or enjoy it sooner if you prefer. The longer they stay in the baking dish, the better they will keep their square strip shape. However, they are really good to eat even if you can’t wait the full 30 minutes and need to indulge sooner. Enjoy! The sugar won’t dissolve completely, and that’s OK. Remove from heat, add stick of butter and vanilla extract, and mix until butter is completely combined. Pour sugar mixture over Cheerios in bowl, mix gently and fold in sugar mixture until completely covered. Square baking dish with non-stick spray Place coated Cheerios in square baking dish Press Cheerios down into dish and add sprinkles on top After about 30 minutes or so cut Cheerios into plates ** HINT ** Spray butter knife with non-stick spray to make this part very easy!
