Genie now offers an AC electric motor for its full line of GS plate scissor lifters, and the new E-Drive is offered as an alternative to the hydraulic scissor propulsion system. The company now offers an E-Drive and a standard hydraulic version of the GS models. The E-Drive is designed to increase battery uptime by 30% per charge and reduce maintenance costs on hydraulic models. Jenny says lifetime battery costs are reduced by 20% with the E-Drive system. E-Drive shears also have 70% fewer hydraulic hoses and fittings to reduce the likelihood of hydraulic leaks. Genie says the E-Drive scissors provide quiet, emissions-free operation. The electric motors are brushless and sealed to prevent moisture. Other features in the E-Drive range include 25% gradeability, twice the tire depth like previous models and enough torque and traction to climb compatible gradients, even if one wheel does skid, according to Genie. The company says the E-Drive has also significantly improved its larger scissors with increased gradeability and uptime. And it was able to reduce the width of the GS-4047 from 47 to 46 inches – so the company changed its name to GS-4046. With the E-Drive, Genie managed to lower the GS-1 inch in width. 4047 to 46 inches. So I changed the name of the elevator to GS-4046, and the E-Drive scissor has a break angle of 14% to prevent it from reaching the bottom at the top of the compatible trailer ramp. That means no more uphill or downhill ramp after partial loading, says Jenny. For greater portability, the new shears have forklift side pockets, along with standard back pockets, for lifting and stopping the pickup vehicle.
