The national puffs in red, white, and blue for the 4th of July

The Strawberry Patriotic Puff Pastry is the perfect 4th of July or Memorial Day dessert! It’s very easy to make, especially when using frozen puff pastry dough. We used a frozen sheet of puff pastry, thawed to room temperature, and taped the edges to create borders. Patriotic Puff Pastry These pockets are filled with red jelly then topped with splashes of blue and a drizzle of white chocolate. They are for breakfast, lunch and dessert! It’s kinda perfect for a national holiday like Memorial Day, Fourth of July, or just a spring / summer treat. Little golden stars are the perfect touch! Fourth of July also happens to be one of my favorite holidays! Not only do I love celebrating our country and our freedom, but I love barbecues, food parties, and get-togethers with family and friends! The recipe starts with some simple summer ingredients you may already have available. If you don’t have blown paste at home, you can find it in the freezer section of nearly any grocery store. Separate two layers of melted puff pastry on a flat surface. Cut each sheet into 6 rectangles (approximately 3.5 x 4.5 inches each). Next, use a star cookie cutter to cut stars out of half of the squares. Consider looking through your collection of Christmas cookie cutters and see if you really have a star! Place the bottom dough on a baking tray. I like to use parchment paper when working with puff pastry. Then spread a thin layer of strawberry jelly in the middle. Make sure not to use too much jelly, as it can spill over while baking. Additionally, you can add more jelly to the star shapes after baking them. Using a fork, seal the top layer of pastry with the bottom layer. Kids are great at this job! Aren’t they just really cute ?! Next, you will place a thin layer of egg white. This helps seal the pastry and create that wonderful golden color and texture. What is washing eggs? So simple! It’s just one egg with a sprinkle of water mixed together. National Pie Pie just see how beautiful it is already! The patriotic, 4th of July themed sweets are super fun to make. Don’t forget the gold stars! On a separate baking sheet, lay out the puff pastry stars and brush them with a little washed egg as well. Once the pastries are done baking, sprinkle a little white chocolate (or melt the white pudding) on top and add the blue granules. To really make the red stars pop, melt a little red jelly in a microwave-safe bowl and gently pour a little of the dissolved jelly into the stars.
