Working on a brief to deliver a first-class facility for students and teachers at St Patrick’s Private School in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Zumtobel Group brands Zumtobel and Thorn supplied a number of luminaires during the €14 million project. In conjunction with building engineers Semple and McKillop Ltd, the project involved the supply of custom built infinite linear lighting lines that had to be the exact size of the radiator panels and be able to integrate third party lighting control sensors. The lighting installation was performed by the electrical contractor, Ronan Burke Electrical. Designed for students with special educational needs, the 5,940 square meter building is primarily a one-story and part three-story building, consisting of 20 classrooms with en-suite toilets, dining areas for young and old, a general purpose auditorium, specialized classrooms, and medical facilities. . The school provides a much needed high quality facility for 400 students from Enniscorthy and surrounding areas. In addition, the building includes a hydrotherapy pool with a wide range of on-site support facilities, including a fully equipped speech and language suite, gardening room, ICT suite, home economics room, and physical services. To achieve desired lighting levels and custom customer requirements, Zumtobel’s SLOTLIGHT infinity has been installed extensively throughout the facility – custom versions for master classrooms, hallways and GP hall. SLOTLGHT’s infinite modular lighting line offers practically unlimited options, with the freedom and flexibility of design, not only in straight lines but even around corners. Consistent, unparalleled lighting quality with virtually end-to-end illumination is available in spans of up to 20m in length without joints to meet every lighting requirement. An eye-catching, custom SLOTLIGHT infinity ‘ring’ was created primarily to light the main foyer. Zumtobel Recessed Clean Linear Lights were installed in the pool area to meet the exact specification requirements of the pool and clean area lighting, utilizing the latest lighting technology with a three-level luminance concept. An important feature of CLEAN is the cover which has a high quality anodized aluminum frame and toughened glass to ensure maximum safety for pool users. The versatile CAELA from Zumtobel illuminates changing rooms with a depth of only 55 mm and a diffused cover that provides optimum light distribution. Thorn’s Beta 2 LEDs were used to illuminate office spaces, providing low glare (UGR < 19) and ensuring comfortable ambient lighting. Other lamps installed in the interior of St. Patrick's include Zomtobel's HELISSA in the toilet and stairwells, Thorn's Duoproof LED in kitchens, ForceLED in factory rooms, and Linn's modular units and wall recessed lamps in the connecting space. The Voyager Star Thorn's long life and low maintenance provide emergency lighting that can be addressed throughout the school, thanks to specialized optics, the Voyager Star sends light exactly where it's needed in an emergency. Wide span values reduce the number of luminaires required compared to other solutions and thus lower the costs involved. Exterior lighting is provided by powerful, high-performance LED street lights from Thorn's Isaro Pro, D-CO LED Bollards provide comfortable visual guidance, and Linn's square LED headlights illuminate the track. Energy-efficient, robust and shock-resistant Thorn's Eyekon LED bulkheads and Olysys LED floodlights with asymmetric distribution are also incorporated into the outdoor lighting design, including the lighting of the runway space. Zumtobel and Thorn have provided a flexible, adaptable, energy-efficient and low-maintenance solution to create a 21st century learning environment for students of St. Patrick's Private School.
